RESPONSIBILITIES: Brightpoint Community College is seeking to hire a Computer Support Specialist for the IT Department.
The Computer Specialist will be responsible for managing the college’s information technology help desk, coordinating and assisting with all academic lab activities, supporting faculty and staff technology needs, and providing audiovisual support at all campus locations. May be required to provide basic troubleshooting for network and telecommunications connectivity issues. Determines project objectives and timelines and ensures completion through contacts with staff, faculty, vendors, and facilitators.
QUALIFICATIONS: High School diploma or equivalent is required. Substantial demonstrated proficiency via work experience in modifying, installing, testing, troubleshooting, and repairing microcomputer hardware and peripherals; ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing with both technical and non-technical personnel; and Windows operating systems. Basic knowledge of networking and telecommunications skills; Microsoft Office software applications, internet browsers, and ability to move computers, work on ladders, and work in small, and enclosed areas. Possess a valid driver's license and a means of transportation to travel to all locations and must be able to work flexible hours (nights, weekends, and holidays) on short notice. HELPFUL: Microsoft Office, Office365, and previous experience in an educational environment. Required: Considerable skill in operation of media services equipment and independent decision making and judgment, standards, principles and practices to function as an audiovisual technician. Knowledge in managing and supporting microcomputers. Current certifications: A+, Microsoft Certified Professional (i.e., Windows 10/11). A background check will be required.
ADDITIONAL CONSIDERATIONS: Associate Degree in Information Technology or equivalent preferred.
*All full-time classified employees new to the Commonwealth of Virginia will serve a 12-month probationary period.
