Summer 2023 class format options include:

• On Campus-Chester
  Look for Course Section Numbers that begin with C
  Classes meet in person on the Chester Campus on the specified days and times.
  Example: MTH 161 C02
• On Campus-Midlothian
  Look for Course Section Numbers that begin with M
  Classes meet in person on the Midlothian Campus on the specified days and times.
  Example: ART 101 M21
• Asynchronous
  Look for Course Section Numbers that begin with A
  Classes are online and have no scheduled Zoom or on-campus meetings. Regular weekly assignments with established due dates are provided online in Canvas. Reliable internet access is required.

• Zoom Synchronous
  Look for Course Section Numbers that begin with Z
  Classes have required online meetings on specific days and times over Zoom. Attend this class from anywhere using a Zoom-capable device. Reliable internet access is required.

• Zoom Synchronous Hybrid
  Look for Course Section Numbers that begin with ZA
  Classes have required online meetings on specific days and times over Zoom. Shortened meeting times require students to complete activities online in Canvas outside of class. Attend this class from anywhere using a Zoom-capable device. Reliable internet access is required.

  Students are required to attend classes on-campus in Chester or synchronously via Zoom on the specified days and times. Students may switch between these attendance options throughout the semester. Reliable internet access and a Zoom-capable device are required for synchronous instruction.

  Students are required to attend classes on-campus in Midlothian or synchronously via Zoom on the specified days and times. Students may switch between these attendance options throughout the semester. Reliable internet access and a Zoom-capable device are required for synchronous instruction.

• Hyflex
  Look for hyflex designation in the notes.
  Classes offer students the choice of meeting in-person, in synchronous meetings via Zoom, or attending asynchronously and completing all coursework and assignments on Canvas. Students may switch between these attendance options throughout the semester. Reliable internet access and a Zoom-capable device are required for synchronous and asynchronous instruction.
  Example: Class Note: This hyflex class offers students the choice of meeting in-person on the Chester campus in synchronous meetings via Zoom or attending asynchronously and completing all coursework and assignments on Canvas. 

Accelerate
Attend class by completing required online activities by published weekly deadlines. The Accelerate Pathway is cohort-based with a prescribed set of courses that must be taken in order, and students can complete a degree in two years, taking one class at a time Division approval is required for all Accelerate Pathway courses.

Flex Hybrid: Midlothian 
These courses include some scheduled face-to-face meetings on specific days and times, and you have the option to attend those meetings in person at the Midlothian Campus, through Zoom and/or virtually (asynchronously). You must also complete required online activities by published weekly deadlines.

Virtual 
Classes are online and have no scheduled Zoom or on-campus meetings. Students are required to complete online assignments by published weekly deadlines. Reliable internet access is required.

Zoom 
Classes have required meetings on specific days and times over Zoom. Attend this class from anywhere using a Zoom-capable device. Reliable internet access is required.

Asynchronous: Class is not held at specific times. If a class is described as asynchronous, that means it is online and you do not have set meeting dates. These classes provide students with flexibility and require good time management skills, as you will have to complete assignments by scheduled due dates.

Bimodal: Classes that give you a choice. Bimodal courses are taught on specific days at specific times, however, it is up to you to decide if you want to attend that class by going to the designated campus or through Zoom. You can choose either option throughout the semester.

Canvas: Canvas is the learning platform, you’ll log into online to access class information, coursework, assignments and more.

Flex: All or part of the class is set up so you can switch how you attend throughout the semester. Decide to attend in person at the noted campus or through Zoom on set dates and times, and/or you can opt to participate in class virtually (asynchronously).

Follet Access Program: If you enroll in courses that are noted as part of the Follett Access Program (formerly called IncludED), you are automatically billed for these course materials upon registration. You will receive information through your student email on how you can opt out of this program.

Hybrid: Classes that combine different instructional formats. These classes provide students with the opportunity to spend some time interacting with their instructors and classmates in person on campus or through Zoom and also experience part of their class online through asynchronous learning.

myBrightpoint: A single log-in portal that allows students to sign in once and access a variety of services, such as their college email, Navigate, SIS, Canvas, and more. A button for myBrightpoint may be found at the top of our website.

Navigate: A technology tool that students can use to set up appointments with their advisors and support services staff; plan their semesters; register for classes; and visualize their academic progress. 

OER:  Refers to Open Educational Resources (OER). Class notes that refer to OER usually have low to no textbook costs.

SIS: Refers to the college's Student Information System (SIS). Students utilize this system to register for classes, monitor their financial aid status, check their grades, pay their tuition and more. Students can access SIS through myBrightpoint.

Synchronous: Classes occur in real time. If a class is described as synchronous, that means you will be expected to attend that class, whether in person on campus or online through Zoom, on specific days and at specific times.

Zoom: Zoom is the web-based audio and video conferencing platform that operates as an online classroom, where you get to see and talk to your instructor and classmates. Classes that use Zoom are held in real time, on specific days, at specific times (synchronously).
