February 3
BHM Documentary Viewing & Discussion – Out of the Shadows
12:00 p.m.
Zoom
Out of the Shadows begins at a turning point in American history: the Selma marches and Watts riots that marked a new phase in the black struggle. Henry Gates explores the rising call for Black Power, redefining American culture, politics, and society.
Open to students, alumni, faculty, staff and the community. Register to participate in this event.
February 7
Presentation by Audrey M. Ross – “A Journey Into The Education of African-Americans in Midlothian”

Midlothian Campus, Hamel Hall, H109
Audrey M. Ross, who has spent the last 30 years researching the history of African Americans in Midlothian, will present on the history of Midlothian’s African-American community. This activity is sponsored by the Black Student Alliance and the History Club at Brightpoint.

Screening of Between the World and Me

Between the World and Me: From Ta-Nehisi Coates' 2015 letter to his teenage son, the HBO Documentary "combines elements of the Apollo’s production, including powerful readings from Coates’ book, and incorporates documentary footage from the actors’ home life, archival footage, and animation." Hosted by the Brightpoint Libraries.
Open to Brightpoint students, faculty and staff.

The movie will be shown twice during the day at 3:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.

Devotion, based on a bestselling book, tells the harrowing true story of two elite U.S. Navy fighter pilots during the Korean War. Their heroic sacrifices would ultimately make them the Navy's most celebrated wingmen.
Open to students, faculty and staff. Refreshments will be provided. Register to participate in this event.
