Asynchronous: Class is not held at specific times. If a class is described as asynchronous, that means it is online and you do not have set meeting dates. These classes provide students with flexibility and require good time management skills, as you will have to complete assignments by scheduled due dates.
Canvas: Canvas is the learning platform, you’ll log into online to access class information, coursework, assignments and more.
Flex: All or part of the class is set up so you can switch how you attend throughout the semester. Decide to attend in person at the noted campus or through Zoom on set dates and times, and/or you can opt to participate in class virtually (asynchronously).
Follet Access Program: If you enroll in courses that are noted as part of the Follett Access Program (formerly called IncludED), you are automatically billed for these course materials upon registration. You will receive information through your student email on how you can opt out of this program.
Hybrid: Classes that combine different instructional formats. These classes provide students with the opportunity to interact with their instructors and classmates in person on campus or through Zoom, while also experience part of their class online through asynchronous learning. Though similar to a Flex class, which allows you to change how you attend your classes throughout the semester, Hybrid classes have a set structure for attending.
myBrightpoint: A single log-in portal that allows students to sign in once and access a variety of services, such as their college email, Navigate, SIS, Canvas, and more. A button for myBrightpoint may be found at the top of our website.
Navigate: A technology tool that students can use to set up appointments with their advisors and support services staff; plan their semesters; register for classes; and visualize their academic progress.
OER: Refers to Open Educational Resources (OER). Class notes that refer to OER usually have low to no textbook costs.

Here to Help You Succeed
To help make college work for you, Brightpoint offers flexible class formats and the option to plan ahead for future semesters. Here's how:
Register for Multiple Semesters
Sign up for multiple semesters at one time, and lock in your path to graduation now. Planning ahead can help you design a pathway to completing your goals while allowing you to create a schedule that fits into your life.
Focus on Fewer Classes at a Time
During the fall and spring semesters, two 7-Week Sessions will be offered with a wide variety of course offerings. Signing up for two or more classes in each of those sessions allows you to focus on fewer classes at once, while still giving you the opportunity to be full-time (12 or more credits per semester). If you need to remain a part-time student, that’s okay. You can still double your course load per semester, which can help you complete faster. Looking for 7-Week class options in SIS? Search under hybrid. See 7-Week session frequently asked questions.
Flexible Course Options
To help you fit college in to your busy schedule, Brightpoint offers a variety of course formats, also known as course modalities. When reviewing the schedules, look at the course section numbers and notes for important information on how a class will be taught. Not sure what a word or phrase means? Descriptions of course format options and terms used are listed below.
All instructors at Brightpoint use Canvas to post course syllabi, announcements, grades, and other important course materials.
