Emergency Medical Services, Advanced Emergency Medical Technician, CSC
This one-year program prepares students for a job as Advanced Emergency Medical Technician (AEMT).
Students learn to examine, assess, and care for medical patients, and practice personal and professional safety. Students will gain field experience through an internship. As students complete their first semester courses, they also become eligible for testing at the EMT level. EMT Certification is required in order to begin Advanced Life Support (ALS) courses.
This program is offered at the Chester Campus.
Note: Students who plan to become an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) must have already obtained their BLS/CPR for Healthcare Providers before enrolling in EMT 111 and EMT 120. Though only eight credits, these two EMT courses are rigorous; students will tend to a minimum of ten patients, and engage in practical study through hospital visits and working on ambulances. After completing the courses, students will become eligible to test and become an EMT.

Career Paths
Prehospital positions would include Advanced EMT, EMT, or Paramedic. While EMS personnel are often thought of as responding to 911 emergencies, they also support interfacility transports, particularly with the growing population of outpatient facilities and free-standing emergency departments. EMTs and paramedics are also involved with numerous niche specialties, from organ donation to working on an offshore oil rig.
After completing your program, you would also be qualified for numerous positions within the hospital environment, including Patient Care Technician. Becoming an EMT will open numerous doors in the health care field.
