Four Brightpoint students and the college’s president, Dr. Bill Fiege, spent a busy day at Virginia’s State Capitol on February 18.

While at the Capitol, the group met with legislators who represent Brightpoint’s service region, including Sen. Michael Jones, Del. Mike Cherry, Del. Lindsey Dougherty, Del. Leslie Mehta, Del. Kimberly Pope Adams, and Del. Lee Ware. The students – Aneeza R Khan, a business administration major; Taylor Parson, a health sciences major; Ali Thomas, a general studies major; and Chris Ruiz-Torres – shared their personal journeys, spoke about their goals, and discussed why they chose Brightpoint and the impact the college is having on their lives. The Brightpoint group also had the opportunity to hear from Lt. Governor Ghazala Hashmi and Virginia Community College System (VCCS) Chancellor David Doré. The day wrapped up with a visit to the Senate Gallery, where the Brightpoint delegation was introduced by Sen. Jones. The trip was part of the VCCS’ Community College Day, a day in which students from across Virginia traveled to the State Capitol to talk about their institutions and the importance of community colleges.
