Photo Identification Required
All testers must present a valid photo ID at check-in. Acceptable forms include:
- Brightpoint College ID (with photo)
- Other college-issued student IDs (with photo)
- U.S. state-issued DMV photo IDs
- U.S. Passports (with photo and valid expiration date)
- Military IDs (with photo)
- Foreign passports must include documentation translated into English
Placement Tests
If you are a placement test taker, you must complete a Brightpoint application before exam day and bring your student ID number (available in SIS). This is only for Accuplacer ESL and VPT Tests.
Testing Environment Rules
- Only test-takers are allowed in the testing room.
- Children are not permitted—please make alternate childcare arrangements.
- Food and drinks are prohibited in the Testing Center.
- All personal belongings must be placed in a locker or left in your vehicle. Locker space is limited—only bring what you need for the exam.
- Outerwear and accessories (coats, jackets, scarves, gloves, hats, sunglasses, etc.) must be removed and stored. Exceptions are made for religious or cultural attire.
Electronic Devices
No electronic or recording devices (phones, smartwatches, earbuds, etc.) are allowed at your desk, on your person, or within reach during testing—even if powered off.
It is strongly recommended that all personal items be locked in your car before testing.
During Testing
- You may not leave the room once your exam has started unless instructed by or approved by the proctor. Leaving without notification may result in your exam being terminated.
- Monitoring software may be used to observe your computer activity during testing. Testing sessions are recorded.
- Screenshots of your testing screen may be taken for incident documentation and reporting purposes.
Plan Ahead
On rare occasions, weather, power outages, or server issues may force unexpected Testing Center closures. We encourage all students to schedule testing well ahead of deadlines to avoid delays.

Schedule your in-person and virtual testing appointment via RegisterBlast. All students taking online and hybrid courses that require on-campus testing need to know the following:
Scheduling Guidelines
- Appointments are required and should be scheduled 24 hours in advance. Sundays and holidays are not considered an advance notice.
- You can choose whether to take your test on-campus at the Chester or Midlothian Campus.
- Virtual option (live proctoring via Zoom) is offered for students who can’t make it to campus for testing.
- Walk-ins are only accepted if time and space allow. This includes Virtual Testing.
- Only 3 “no shows” are allowed per semester.
- Students should arrive at least 10 minutes early for their appointments. If you will be arriving late or need to reschedule, please email or call the Testing Center. Late arrivals may be asked to sign an exam time waiver form, or in some cases, will need to reschedule.
- Last minute request may not be honored.
- Your instructor will give you specific testing requirements and let you know when your test must be taken. However, keep in mind that the Testing Services Department may not be administering tests every day during this period. For example, the testing centers are closed on Sundays.
- No test will be given after the test due date specified without written authorization from your instructor.
- All academic exams must be started at least 1 hour prior to closing, unless special circumstances have been approved by the Testing Center.
- All tests must conclude by the Testing Center’s designated closing time. It is your responsibility to schedule your test with enough time to finish your test before closing.
What to Bring
- A photo ID is required for all testing.
- Students must know or bring usernames and passwords necessary for any online testing program accessed for their exam.
- Ask your instructor about what is required for your test.
- Pens, pencils, scratch paper, and ear plugs are provided. Calculators, scantron forms, and headphones (noise cancelling provided) are limited and provided on an as-needed basis.
Respondus
Respondus is an academic technology company that provides assessment tools for learning systems.
Respondus LockDown Browser is a custom browser that locks down the testing environment within a learning management system to prevent students from printing, copying, going to another URL, or accessing other applications during an assessment.
Respondus Monitor is an automated proctoring feature that can be turned on when using the LockDown Browser that uses a student’s webcam and video analytics to prevent cheating during non-proctored exams.

ProctorU
What is ProctorU?
ProctorU provides secure live and automated online proctoring services.
To schedule a virtually proctored test via ProctorU, contact your instructor.
Test-Takers:
If you are a test-taker, ProctorU allow you the convenience of taking a test from a private study room or from the comfort of your own home.
All you need in order to take your exam with ProctorU is:
- A strong Internet connection
- A working webcam
- A functioning microphone
- A private, quiet and well-lit area · ProctorU account (create a student account here!)
Recommended system settings or systems check to check your equipment (you will need to log into your ProctorU account in order to do this)

Alternative (Off-Site) Proctor Request For Brightpoint Students
General Policy
Brightpoint Community College must approve all proctor requests. The college reserves the right to deny any request at its discretion.
Requests must be submitted at least three (3) business days in advance. Students must inform their instructor before submitting a request. Proctor forms must be signed and returned by the off-site proctor through their organization’s email address or fax number.
The Testing Center will coordinate off-site proctoring for students who:
- Are active duty or deployed military members
- Live outside the service area and cannot travel to campus
- Have a documented disability that prevents travel to a college Testing Center
- Experience a mitigating circumstance
Accommodations
If you require testing accommodations:
- Contact the Testing Center well in advance to discuss your needs with a proctor.
- Email your current Individualized Accommodation Plan to testing@brightpoint.edu.
Who Can Serve as a Proctor?
Approved proctors include:
- College or university testing center staff
- Administrators or faculty members
- Counselors
- Professional librarians
- Military students may use an education officer or test control officer
Who Cannot Serve as a Proctor?
Proctors may not be:
- Friends or relatives
- Employers or co-workers
- Neighbors
- Anyone with a personal relationship with the student

Non-Brightpoint Students Proctor Request
The Testing Center provides limited services for non-Brightpoint students.
We accept testing requests from:
- Virginia Community College System students (Concurrent & Dual Enrolled)
- Old Dominion University Online
- Richard Bland College
We do not provide proctoring services for students at other institutions.
Steps to Request Proctoring
- Inform your instructor about the request.
- Visit your home college’s Testing Center page for the required proctor form.
- Complete the necessary paperwork with your “home” college or university to have an exam proctored at our location. a. If your college does not offer proctor forms, non-Brightpoint/SSDL students attending (TCC, VPCC, Camp, CVCC, ESCC, Reynolds, SVCC, SWCC) can complete our proctor request form.
- ODU Online Students must complete this form.
- Email your completed form to: testing@brightpoint.edu
- Schedule your exam by sending a request via email after receiving approval.
- Your appointment will be scheduled through RegisterBlast by the testing staff.
- Students will receive a confirmation and reminder email.
All visiting students are expected to follow Brightpoint Testing Center policies and procedures. A Photo ID is required.

Brightpoint Testing Center works to ensure that appropriate testing accommodations (extended time, distraction reduce, etc.) are provided for students who are eligible for services. Noise cancelling headphones and ear plugs are provided. Students are welcome to bring their own.
Students must discuss testing needs and accommodations with their instructor and request that their testing information be sent to the testing center prior to scheduling.
Scheduling
To request a reservation to take a proctored test with Brightpoint Testing Center using your accommodations, please schedule via RegisterBlast. Photo identification is required for all testing. Summer hours may vary.
Make-up Tests
The Testing Center will provide testing services to students who need to make up tests that they missed during regular class time. Students taking in-person and online courses can schedule your make-up test appointment via RegisterBlast. Students must receive permission from their instructor before scheduling a make-up exam. Photo identification is required for all testing.
To take a make-up test in the Testing Center:
- Contact your instructor to see if they will allow you to complete a make-up exam.
- If your instructor approves your request to test at the Testing center, they will submit the exam and the instructions (or grant an extension) through RegisterBlast. Once the make-up test has been submitted by your instructor into RegisterBlast, you can then schedule your testing appointment.

Brightpoint Community College has partnered with Pearson VUE business to deliver exams and provide the highest levels of service to our students using state-of-the-art technology. Learn what to expect at a Pearson Vue Testing Center.
Eligibility
Currently enrolled Brightpoint and CCWA students, including concurrent and dual enrollment students, are eligible to take a Pearson Vue exam at the Testing Center.Register with Pearson Vue
First-time test takers must create a Pearson VUE web account. Please note that account creation may take up to 24 hours. You will be notified by email when your account is activated. Brightpoint students are not able to schedule a testing appointment directly with Pearson Vue/Exam Sponsor. We are a private PVTC and not listed on their sites.Costs
Pricing varies for each exam program and sponsor. Students must purchase their vouchers from the Pearson Vue Voucher Store before scheduling a test appointment.Scheduling and Location
Please complete the Pearson VUE Testing Request Form and email it to testing@brightpoint.edu. Appointments are scheduled by a Testing Center Specialist through RegisterBlast and Pearson VUE’s registration management system. Students will receive a confirmation email from RegisterBlast and Pearson VUE if the requested testing date is available.All Pearson Vue testing occurs at the Midlothian Testing Center in Trailblazer Hall, room T215. Appointments are not offered during final examination week.
Read Pearson VUE’s Candidate Rules Agreement. You will sign the agreement on your exam date. Supplemental materials and storage for your belongings will be provided.
Two forms of identification must be presented at the time of the test. Approved IDs are based on the requirements set by Pearson Vue and Exam Sponsors (e.g., CompTIA). See various certification exams and GED testing requirements.

CLEP Exams at Brightpoint
Earn College Credit for What You Already Know
The College-Level Examination Program (CLEP) lets you earn credit for prior learning by passing one of 34 exams. Brightpoint and more than 2,900 colleges nationwide accept CLEP scores. Note: CLEP exams with essays are not offered at Brightpoint, and not all exams qualify for credit.

ATI TEAS Test at Brightpoint
Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS)
Students must take the ATI TEAS test to be considered for admission into Brightpoint’s nursing programs.
Application Periods
Registered Nursing & Practical Nursing Program
- Spring Application: February 1–28 (for August admission)
- Fall Application: September 1–30 (for January admission)
Students may take the TEAS test outside of the application window, during the current semester — excluding finals week.

Missed Appointments

Retake Policy
- Students may take the ATI TEAS test up to 2 times before applying to the program.
- A third attempt is allowed after a 6-month wait

NAS 2, Foundations of Life Sciences, is offered as an open course and test out exam at Brightpoint becoming Brightpoint. NAS 2 is a FREE open online course intended to help students acquire the knowledge needed to be successful in Human Anatomy and Physiology I (BIO 141). Starting in Spring 2022, BIO 141 has a prerequisite that requires students to successfully complete NAS 2 (with a 70% or better on the final test out exam) or earn a C or better in General Biology I (BIO 101). Students will be unable to take BIO 141 without first satisfying the required prerequisite.
NAS 2 presents basic biological and chemical concepts for students interested in the health sciences. The NAS 2 course is available online through Canvas and you can complete it at your own pace and schedule. The NAS 2 course offers support and information to prepare for the NAS 2 test out Exam. Students are encouraged to complete the instructional modules in Canvas before taking the test out exam, but it is not a requirement to do so.
Eligibility
Students currently enrolled at Brightpoint in majors that require BIO 141.
Registration for Course
Students can self-enroll in the NAS 2 Open Course and Test Out Exam. The self-enroll link has also been emailed to current students in majors that require BIO 141. If you need assistance enrolling in the course, please reach out to either Advising or the Testing Center. You do not need an access code to enroll, only to take the test out exam. This access code will be entered by the testing proctor on exam day.
Taking the Test
Students can take the test out exam remotely or in-person at Chester or Midlothian Testing Center. 90 minutes is allotted for the exam. Students may take the test as many times as they want but must wait 24 hours between tests.
How to schedule an NAS 2 Test.
Preparation
Support for this course can be found through the Academic Resource Center, the ARC. Tutoring is available, in-person, after-hours, and online through Zoom.
Test Results
Results will be posted in SIS within 48 hours of completing the exam. Passing this test with a 70% or higher will allow students to enroll in BIO 141. If a student does not score above 70%, they are advised to return to the modules, relearn the material, and attempt the test out again.

ACCUPLACER ESL Placement Test
ACCUPLACER ESL is a computerized, untimed placement test designed to assess your English language skills and place you in the right courses for your academic success. The test is required for:
- Students whose first language is not English
- Students requesting ESL coursework

Virginia Placement Tests (VPT)
Direct Enrollment is the First Step
New students at Brightpoint will complete the Direct Enrollment Survey as part of the admissions process. After submitting your application, you’ll work with a New Student Navigator to determine your placement in math and English courses—no placement test is needed in most cases.
For Students Who Applied Before Summer 2022
If you applied to Brightpoint before Summer 2022 and have not yet enrolled in a math or English course, please connect with the Help Hub to review your placement options and choose the correct courses for your academic program.
When Is the Virginia Placement Test (VPT) Required?
The Virginia Placement Test is only required in limited situations, such as:
- Ability-to-Benefit testing
- Concurrent enrollment students
- Veteran/Military students
- Cases where an external agency or VCCS policy requires test documentation for course placement
- Are you ready for Calculus? Take the VPT Calculus exam.*
*If this applies to you, your assigned Brightpoint staff member (such as a Navigator, Dean of Students, or Veterans Affairs representative) will help you schedule your VPT through the Testing Center.
How to Schedule a Placement Test
If you are approved to take the VPT:
- Use RegisterBlast to schedule your appointment, or
- Email the Testing Center at testing@brightpoint.edu for assistance.
You’ll need:
- A valid photo ID
- Your Brightpoint student ID number (EMPLID) (You can find this after submitting your college application.)

Tests are offered by appointment during regular Testing Center hours. Walk-ins are allowed if space is available. Please allow 3–4 hours for each test. We recommend scheduling English and math tests separately.

Services and Policies
Chester Library Closed
The Chester Library will be closed through July 1 due to a water leak. Those who need library services may continue to use the Library at the Midlothian Campus or access Library resources, including the Chat with a Librarian service, online. Students scheduled to pick up a library laptop should go to the Security desk in Moyar (near the Help Hub).
