Brightpoint Alert is one of the many notification tools that the college will use to alert students, faculty and staff of an emergency situation and of changes in operations due to inclement weather or other unexpected situations. Brightpoint Alert allows the college to send urgent text messages and e-mails to those who are registered in the system.

Brightpoint Alert is delivered through Everbridge, but it is operated by Brightpoint staff. With the exception of test messages, those registered in the system will receive only emergency notifications and notifications about inclement weather closings and delays from the college.

This is a voluntary system, so if you would like to receive these messages, you must register. It is simple and easy to sign up, and you may register multiple mobile devices and e-mail addresses. There is no fee to register for Brightpoint Alert, but your carrier may charge fees for receiving messages on your wireless device.

  • Any student, parent, faculty or member of the staff who wishes to immediately be informed of an emergency situation or inclement weather closing and delay at Brightpoint.

  • Brightpoint Alert will be used if college administration, college security or local authorities determine there is an immediate threat or any time an urgent need arises that requires the college community to take quick action, such as a tornado warning, bomb threat or hazmat spill. Brightpoint Alert also will be used for notification of changes to the college’s operations due to inclement weather or unexpected situations such as power outages.

  • The college will use several communication methods in addition to Brightpoint Alert to notify students, faculty and staff of an emergency situation and of an unexpected change in the college’s operations.  Other methods of notification include: student email, the college web site,  Facebook, Twitter, employee email, the public address system, electronic bulletin boards, fire alarms, security officers, area emergency coordinators, indoor security call boxes, and media outlets.

  • If you have multiple e-mail addresses and mobile devices registered in the Brightpoint Alert system, you will receive the same information through all those e-mail addresses and on all the devices you listed in the system. In some cases, email notifications may be a bit longer because of text message character limitations, but the important details will be the same no matter how you choose to receive the alerts. If an emergency situation is ongoing, you may also receive follow-up notifications, so it is important that you always read any messages sent through Brightpoint Alert.

  • Brightpoint Alert messages are sent to all registered users, regardless of where they take their classes or work. That’s because so many Brightpoint faculty, staff and students spend time at both campuses or in online classes.

  • Brightpoint Alert allows you to register multiple wireless devices and email addresses.

  • Brightpoint Alerts offer college-specific information that would not be contained in other alerts. Therefore, we encourage members of our college community to sign up to receive Brightpoint Alerts.

  • No, they are not. WEA is a public safety system used by government officials to send geographically targeted text-like messages about imminent threats to safety, such as dangerous weather or missing children. These emergency messages can be received on compatible mobile devices located in the alert area, even if the device s roaming or belongs to someone visiting from another area. When a WEA is issued, it appears on the mobile device screen as a text-like message and is accompanied by a unique attention signal and vibration.

Brightpoint Alerts are sent by the college and will include specific college information. Brightpoint Alerts are only sent if one or both campuses are or could be impacted by the emergency situation, and they can be received in the form of a text, email or both, depending on the choices made when a person registers in the system.

In the event a WEA is issued, it is important to remember:

    • You may receive a WEA but not receive a Brightpoint Alert or any other emergency notifications from the college. Situations vary, and the college will only issue emergency notifications once its confirmed the safety concern could impact one or both of its campuses.
    • In the event the college determines a Brightpoint Alert or other urgent notifications need to be issued, there may be a gap between when a person receives a WEA (if one is sent out) and when one receives an alert notification from the college.

To learn more about WEA system, visit https://www.fcc.gov/consumers/guides/wireless-emergency-alerts-wea.

  • Yes. In order to ensure the system is working properly, Brightpoint Alert will be tested at least once a month as part of the college's regular emergency communications test plan. All messages sent out as part of these exercises will clearly state they are part of a test.

  • If you know that an alert has been sent out, but you did not receive it, you should check the following:

    • Check your Brightpoint Alert account to make sure all email addresses and device information you listed are accurate.
    • Make sure your SPAM filter did not block the message.
    • Check with your wireless carrier to make sure it is not experiencing network issues.

Email BrightpointAlert@brightpoint.edu if after checking these items, you are still experiencing issues.

  • Brightpoint will not verify the accuracy of the data you enter into Brightpoint Alert. It is your responsibility to make sure all information entered into the system is accurate.

Each subscriber is responsible for updating his/her information in the Brightpoint Alert system. When you register for Brightpoint Alert, you will be asked to create a username and password for your account. You may go back into your account at any time to add devices; update phone numbers and email addresses; or unsubscribe.

  • You may unsubscribe from Brightpoint Alert at any time. If you decide you no longer want to participate in the notification system, you may go into your account on the Brightpoint Alert website and remove your information or you may email us your request including your name, email or the device you would like unsubscribed.

  • There is no fee to register for Brightpoint Alert, but your carrier may charge a fee for receiving messages on your wireless device.

  • No. The information you enter into the Brightpoint Alert system will only be used by the college.
