Modernizing Traditions (Art Exhibition)
Modernizing Traditions, an art exhibition by Desmond Ellsworth, will be on display in the Brightpoint Art Gallery from September 12 through October 4, 2024.
The Art Gallery is located on our Midlothian Campus in Eliades Hall, E107. The gallery is open 12:00 – 4:00 p.m., Monday – Friday (except holidays), and by appointment. Free parking is available in Lot A.
About the Artist
Desmond Ellsworth, a citizen of the Nansemond Indian Nation, is a Southeast Native American basket weaver whose artistry blends tradition with modernity. Weaving since 2016, Desmond combines contemporary materials with traditional southeast basket designs and techniques. His baskets are a celebration of both beauty and history, reflecting a deep appreciation for the cultural significance and craftsmanship of his art. Through his work, Desmond continues to honor and preserve the rich heritage of his ancestors while embracing innovative approaches in basket weaving.
UNITY Project – Chester
The UNITY project is a community art project that celebrates interconnectedness. Participants in the project will tie colorful pieces of yarn to outdoor posts that represent some of their personal identifiers. This will create a web of yarn symbolizing our shared humanity.
From October 2 – 17, Unity will be open to the public on our Chester campus, in the grassy area next to Goyne Hall and behind Discovery Hall.

As an official Brightpoint Inauguration Event, the Unity Project will coincide with the inauguration of our president, Dr. Bill Fiege.
Brightpoint Connect — Chester
Interested in learning about Brightpoint, meeting your peers, participating in fun activities, and potentially winning a Bookstore gift card?
Attend our Brightpoint Connect event in Chester on October 9, from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., outside on the field in front of Goyne Hall.
This is your opportunity to spend time on campus with classmates and enjoy food, music, and games, including a Brightpoint-focused scavenger hunt. You'll also have the chance to get connected with clubs, student service departments, and outside vendors. Bookstore gift cards will be awarded to lucky activity participants.
The scavenger hunt will be available virtually from October 7 – 11.
As an official Brightpoint Inauguration Event, Brightpoint Connect will coincide with the inauguration of our president, Dr. Bill Fiege.

Engineering Night
Are you a current Brightpoint pre-Engineering or Engineering student? Do you have questions about transferring to a four-year engineering program? Would you be interested in a summer internship?
Or, are you a prospective Engineering student who's looking for more information about the Brightpoint Engineering program and our guaranteed transfer-to-university programs?
If you said, "Yes!" to any of the above questions, then join us for Engineering Night on October 24, 2024. The event will occur at our Midlothian Campus on the third floor of Trailblazer Hall, but you can also attend online.

Fall Fest
As part of Brightpoint's inauguration celebration month, we're hosting Fall Fest, an evening packed with family fun! Brightpoint’s Fall Fest takes place October 25, 2024, from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. at the college’s Midlothian Campus. The event includes numerous activities for all ages, including a haunted house, crafts, games, a trick-or-treat trail, a costume parade, face painting, bilingual story time, a DJ dance party, and food trucks. The event is open to both the college and the local community. Stop by, and take part in the fun! Admission is free.
