RESPONSIBILITIES: The college is seeking a Financial Service Specialist I to assist the Associate Vice President of Financial Services department. This position assists in managing the day-to-day activities in the office and to ensure the fiscal responsibility and accountability over the use of restricted and budgeted college funds. In accordance with the Commonwealth of Virginia, VCCS, JTCC, and ARMICS policies and procedures, manage funds as required in the VCCS Administrative Information System (AIS) financial implementation processes and sub-systems. Manages the reporting, monitoring, and reconciling restricted and grant funding in coordination with internal and external agencies. Also, provide support by reconciling restricted funds, Local banking services, and college budget reporting.
QUALIFICATIONS: Required: Graduation from a college or university with major study in accounting or equivalent knowledge/training is strongly preferred. Working knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and practices. Ability to utilize technology to support the delivery of administrative financial and reporting services. Ability to interpret policies, analyze and solve problems. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing and to train supporting staff. Ability to analyze software to recommend system enhancements and to project future operational needs. Working knowledge of all phases of automated accounting systems. Working experience with internal and external business customers. Demonstrated experience in a high-volume customer service environment. High school diploma or equivalent required. Successful completion of criminal background check will be required. Preferred: Graduation from a college or university with major studies in business/accounting is preferred. Financial accounting experience in an educational environment is also preferred. Experience in advanced-level technical accounting and financial reporting is also preferred.
*All full-time classified employees new to the Commonwealth of Virginia will serve a 12-month probationary period.

Due to a staff meeting and training, on Friday, March 24, several student services offices will be closed, starting at 11:30 a.m. on the Chester Campus and 12:00 p.m. on the Midlothian Campus.
Offices and services that will be closed and unavailable, on both campuses and remotely, include: Help Hub, Financial Aid, Admissions and Records, Business Office, Cashier’s Office, student navigators and advisors, and tech support.
