GENERAL INFORMATION: Brightpoint Community College is a two-year public institution of higher education and is the third largest of Virginia’s 23 community colleges. The college is located within the Greater Richmond metropolitan area. RESPONSIBILITIES: Brightpoint Community College is seeking to fill a nine-month full-time teaching faculty position available for the Fall 2024 semester in funeral services. This is an on-campus position. The selected candidate will teach funeral services courses in hybrid, in-person, and/or online formats. Teaching assignments may include a mix of day and night courses at the Chester campus. Full-time teaching responsibilities include teaching the equivalent of 15 credit hours per semester, student advising, supporting application, admissions, and enrollment processes, serving on division and college committees, course evaluation and development and attending and representing Brightpoint Community College at community events and professional meetings and conferences.

QUALIFICATIONS: Required: Must have a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university. Candidates who do not have a Master’s degree must commit to earning a Master’s degree in a related field within five years of the date of hire. Must have graduated from an accredited mortuary program and have at least two years of work experience in the funeral services industry. Must be licensed or able to obtain a license in Virginia.

The successful candidate must be able to:

  • Possess excellent oral and written communication skills, interpersonal, problem-solving, and time-management skills.

  • Be willing to teach a combination of day, evening, weekend, in-person and online classes with the ability to be flexible to work at any of the College’s locations.

  • Be willing to adopt and teach new and emerging technologies and have a commitment to meeting the needs of and providing instruction to diverse populations.

  • Work in a collegial, diverse, multi-ethnic, and multi-cultural college environment.

  • Work in compliance with federal, state, and local laws/policies relevant to Brightpoint and external accrediting bodies/boards.

  • Successfully complete and pass a criminal background check.

Additional Considerations: A master’s degree from an accredited college or university and prior full-time teaching experience in a community college setting or in a higher education institution; embalming experience; and experience with instructional technology and a learning management system.
