Responsibilities: This is a full-time, twelve-month faculty position for Brightpoint Community College’s Practical Nurse (PN) program. The Program Coordinator oversees the Practical Nurse program and works collaboratively with faculty and staff to ensure effective implementation of the PN program and to address issues related to admission and retention of students in that program. Responsibilities include day-to-day oversight of the Practical Nurse program; evaluating and supervising part-time nursing faculty; teaching nursing courses; assessing program outcomes; scheduling of nursing courses and curricula; managing student admissions for the program; providing academic advising; serving on college committees; ensuring that the program meets the requirements of the Virginia Board of Nursing; representing Brightpoint Community College’s nursing program to the community; maintaining strong positive relationships with external agencies for clinical practice; preparing the faculty and students for the future of nursing in Virginia; and managing other duties as assigned. This position reports to the Dean of Nursing and Allied Health and is located currently at the College’s Health Education Center in Chester.
Qualifications: Required: Bachelor’s degree in nursing; eligibility for licensure in VA; and a current, active, unrestricted license to practice as RN. Significant experience in nursing education and program leadership, preferably at the Associate Degree level; demonstrate a strong commitment to practical nursing education and academic progression in nursing; ability to provide leadership in instruction, curriculum development, and student and faculty evaluation. A minimum of two years of full-time teaching experience at or above the academic level of the program of nursing; and hold a current license or multistate licensure privilege to practice as a registered nurse in the Commonwealth of Virginia without any disciplinary action that restricts practice. A current knowledge of nursing practice at the practical or vocational level. Exceptional leadership skills, along with excellent verbal and written communication skills. Knowledge of ACEN standards and the VA Board of Nursing regulations is expected. Successful completion and passing of a criminal background check will be required.
Additional Considerations: Master’s degree in nursing education, current clinical practice knowledge, experience teaching, and familiarity with instructional technology.
