Our college is seeking a professional to run the STEM Center, (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) which includes, providing technical and tutoring support to students and faculty in STEM related fields, proctoring math exams, tracking student usage and success. Core responsibilities include hiring, training, scheduling, and supervising a staff of student STEM tutors, and professional tutors. The STEM Coordinator will provide instruction to JTCC, becoming Brightpoint students in all STEM classes, including developmental math classes. The STEM Coordinator will also participate in assessing effectiveness of services, collaborate with staff and faculty to enhance student success, assist the Academic Resource Centre Coordinator with various administrative tasks, provide technical training to faculty members, students and staff when needed, assist in coordinating the college math readiness and/or STEM initiatives, and create additional resources to support faculty and staff, such as embedded tutoring and campus and virtual workshops. This position will serve all instructional sites. Evening and weekend shifts may be required.
Experience working in an academic resource center or equivalent preferably in high school or college. Experience with software and instructional technology, preferably with math instructional systems such as MyLabsPlus or MyMathLab. Excellent communication and problem-solving skills. Must have experience working with Microsoft Office.
Successful completion and passing of a criminal background check is required.
Preferred: Bachelor’s degree or higher in mathematics, math education, or related STEM major strongly preferred. Experience with software such as Tutor Trac or Navigate and learning management systems such as Blackboard or Canvas. Experience with Microsoft Office.
*All full-time classified employees new to the Commonwealth of Virginia will serve a 12-month probationary period.
