Every Month Is A Reason to Celebrate Community Colleges
A message from Dr. Bill Fiege, President of Brightpoint Community College.
I believe in the power of education. It helps individuals discover their talents, grow their abilities, and better their lives.
I believe in life-long learning. Our ability to expand our minds and skills doesn’t end at a certain age, with the attainment of a degree or with landing a job. Our need to gain new knowledge and to adapt to a changing world is ongoing.
I believe one of the best ways to start or continue an education is through community college. Community colleges make education accessible. They are strongly connected to the community, so they understand and can respond to the needs of those who live, work, and operate businesses there.
At Brightpoint Community College, we believe in making education available to all. We envision a success story for every student, and we strive to create a culture of care that welcomes everyone and embraces each person as unique.
Our students have different dreams, skillsets and needs, and we can help all of them build a pathway to their goals. We provide students with a high-value education that allows them to grow and build their knowledge. And, we offer them a variety of services – from free tutoring and technology loans to student activities to internships and employer connections. So, whether the student is in high school and trying to get a jump-start on college, a working parent continuing their higher education, a veteran searching for a new direction, a worker who wants to upskill for a promotion or switch careers – we have options that can help them achieve their goals.
In addition to providing quality educational opportunities that inspire success for all students, Brightpoint’s mission includes a focus on supporting community vitality. To do that, Brightpoint offers programs that address evolving workforce needs in the community. Our partnerships with business and industry are crucial to this work. Area employers provide insights into their industry and guidance on curriculum, so we can keep our programs relevant and future facing and teach students the skills and knowledge needed for today and tomorrow’s in-demand jobs.
April is Community College Month, but, for me, every month is community college month. The work we do never stops. In fact, we have new classes that start every month of the year. Our commitment to our students and to our community never ends. Our partnerships with business and industry continually expand. The successes of our students and alumni shine each and every month. So, I ask you to join me in celebrating community colleges and the people who make our institutions so special all year long! And, I encourage you to check out Brightpoint and find out why we are Trailblazers and are truly our community’s college!
