Community College Month: Why Brightpoint?
Enrolling at Brightpoint could be your best decision ever.
April is Community College Month, so we’re sharing why enrolling at Brightpoint, a Virginia community college, might just be your best decision ever.
1. Find A Major That Fits
Whether you’re beginning your academic journey in higher education, or following a calling for a new career, finding the perfect major for you is the first step toward achieving your goals.
At Brightpoint, we offer more than 80 majors that can prepare you to transfer to a four-year university or directly enter a career path. Our degree and certificate programs cover a range of career fields, including health sciences, information technology, advanced manufacturing and skilled trades.
Do you want to build something that will last? Create inspiring art? Heal or protect the community? Start at Brightpoint.
2. Train for In-Demand Local Careers
80% of Brightpoint students stay in the area after graduation, thanks in large part to our industry partnerships.
Our career and technical training programs are shaped by local industry. We work with employers and business partners from our service region to develop courses based on the qualifications they value.
We’ve helped manufacturing company employees earn job-specific credentials to enhance their skills, and developed new majors like radiologic technology and pharmaceutical manufacturing in partnership with local employers.
Our students get hands on with workplace technologies, learn through simulated workplace experiences, and have the chance to apply for on-the-job training.
We prepare you for real-life jobs, so you can succeed after graduation.
3. Engage with a Vibrant Community
We host a wide variety of community-building events and on-campus learning opportunities, like welcome events during the beginning of the semester and information sessions about specific majors. Watch a musical performance at our Lynn Theatre. Network at a career fair. Or join a game night and compete with peers in between snack breaks. Virtual workshops and meetings are available for those who don’t live locally. Our events are typically free, and many are open to the public.
Events aren’t the only way to build community while you earn your degree. Student clubs and organizations also provide opportunities to gain leadership skills, network with community members, and connect with people you relate to. And, our smaller classroom sizes facilitate stronger connections among students and faculty.
4. Feel Supported Along the Way
Like any new experiences, starting a new academic or career path can be challenging. But the right support system can help you feel more capable of achieving your goals. Brightpoint offers a variety of services and resources to support you, from your first visit to the college to your first job application before graduation.
The Help Hub is full of experts who can answer any question you have, including how to enroll, which major to apply to, and directions to the right classroom. Financial aid and assistance is available for those who qualify. Resources like the food pantry can help students who need additional support.
If you’re a parent, you can take your children to specific campus spaces to study in private. If you want study tips or advice on a specific course, you can head to the Academic Resource Center for free tutoring. And, when you’re ready to start applying to jobs, Career Services will guide you through writing a resume, attending career fairs, and choosing an interview-ready outfit from the Career Clothing Closet.
We encourage Brightpoint students to reach out and ask for help. You never have to feel alone.
