Students who are pregnant or parenting may face additional challenges when juggling school and parenting responsibilities, and Brightpoint has resources to help.

  • Private breastfeeding and lactation rooms are available for all Brightpoint students, faculty, and staff without an appointment.

    • Midlothian Campus:
      • Dean of Students Office, Trailblazer Hall, 205A and 205B
      • Clean/Wash Materials – Trailblazer Hall Employee Lounge, Room T313
    • Chester Campus:
      • Mamava Lactation Pod is available in the Chester Library. You can access/unlock the pod by downloading the Mamava App and then following the instructions on the Mamava pod. If you are unable to access the app, or for assistance with unlocking the pod, please contact a member of the library staff or campus security.
      • Refrigeration of supplies available in Moyar Hall, Room 112

    If you have any questions or need assistance with any breastfeeding/lactation needs, please contact Michelle Spencer, Associate Dean of Students, at 804-594-1534 or Sandra Kirkland, Dean of Students, at 804-594-1566.

    Brightpoint Security are also available to allow access to lactation space if they are locked. Please contact Brightpoint Security at 804-796-4025 (Chester) or 804-897-6678 (Midlothian).

    *Blinds are on each office door for privacy
    **Signage is available for reflecting that the room is in use
    ***Rooms are equipped with refrigerators for storage of breastmilk

  • The Brightpoint Libraries contain children's educational materials and quiet areas for students to study with their children. 

    • Child-friendly study room at the Chester Campus: The private study room includes a child-sized table and chairs.
    • Parent and child study carrel at the Midlothian Campus: The carrel is a desk with an attached space for a young child. 
    • Educational Curriculum Materials Collection: Both campus libraries include board books, picture books, juvenile literature, and games and manipulatives for young children.
  • The CAPS program provides financial support and mentoring for single parents. Being a single parent can present many obstacles to degree attainment. This program is designed to create a sense of community and support for students who are parenting.

    CAPS offers:

    • Direct financial assistance
    • Assistance finding childcare
    • Individualized coaching and mentorship
    • Educational programming directly related to issues experienced by single parents
    • Special recognition as a CAPS Fellow
    • Opportunities for group activities, such as celebrations, workshops, etc., with other single parents
    • A voice on campus for all student parents

    Who is eligible?

    • Single parents with children from birth to 18
    • Pell Eligible (Complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid)
    • Minimum GPA of 2.0
    • Enrolled in a minimum of 6 credits per semester

    Students enrolled in healthcare programs and/or who have exceptional need for childcare will be given priority.
