Veterans who are interested in beginning their education at Brightpoint must follow these steps. Contact the MVEO with any questions about the process.
- Apply for admission to Brightpoint.
- Students may also apply for Federal Aid by completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid. JTCC's school code is 004004.
- Apply for V.A. Education Benefits:
- After you click "submit," a pop-up confirmation message should appear. Additionally, an email stating the same will be sent to the email address you entered during the application process.
- Bring a paper copy of the applicable confirmation email and/or message to the Military & Veterans Education Office on either campus or forward the confirmation e-mail to: veterans@brightpoint.edu.
- If you have used VA educational benefits at another school, you must fill out a VA Form 22-1995 "Request Change of Program/Place of Training" to change your place of study with the VA.
- Meet with an advisor in the Advising Center, and visit the Admissions and Records Office. Bring the following items:
- Current Military Orders
- Proof of residency (item of mail with name and local address if residing off-base)
- Military ID Card
- Have your military and transfer credits evaluated.
- Request/download a copy of your military transcript
- United States Air Force, request your military transcript through the Air Force Transcript Portal.
- All other branches of service, complete the Joint Services Transcript Request
- Request official college/university transcripts be sent to:

- Use the Credit 2 Careers Portal to explore the possibility of earning credit for prior learning.
- Request/download a copy of your military transcript
- Attend an orientation session. Visit the orientation page for information about upcoming sessions, or to access our fully online orientation.
- Meet with a MVEO Counselor. Bring a copy of:
- Your DD 214 (Member-4 copy)
- The confirmation email/message as described in step 3 above (VA Form 22-1990 or VA Form 22-1995)
- The Certificate of Eligibility (VA mails this to you after you have applied for benefits)
- Select your classes and register through the Student Information System (SIS) in myBrightpoint.
- Pay tuition and fees no later than due date.

- Information for in-state tuition rates
- Ensure you are informed and aware of payment information/options by visiting the MVEO on either campus before making payments.
- Meet with a MVEO Counselor to get your classes "Certified" (i.e., to activate your benefits).
- Ensure your enrollment (classes) are requirements of your degree. To assist you in selecting classes, view your advisement report in SIS.
- Bring any items from step 8 that you have not brought in to your MVEO counselor
Chapters 30, 1606, and 1607 ONLY. Verify your enrollment monthly at W.A.V.E. or 877-838-2278.You must inform your Brightpoint MVEO Counselor (School Certifying Official) if you:
- Change your enrollment in any manner (drop/add/withdraw)
- Change your major
Failure to do this may result in under payment or over payment of benefits, which will cause a debt to Brightpoint and/or the VA.

Each semester, you must inform the MVEO that you are enrolled in classes and you want to use your VA Educational Benefit(s).
- Meet with your academic advisor.
- Students may also apply for federal aid by completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid. Brightpoint's school code is 004004.
- Select your classes and register through the Student Information System (SIS) in myBrightpoint. Remember, the VA only pays for classes that apply to your program of study.

Get your classes “Certified” to activate your benefits. There are two ways to do this:

Or, request certification through the Enrollment Certification Request Form. To access the form, log in to myBrightpoint. (link opens in new tab) Click on the “SIS” tile. In SIS, click on “Student Records eForms.” On the left, click the tab for “Military Benefit Certify eForm.” Fill out the information to the best of your knowledge. If you would like to save your progress and come back later, click “Save.” If you are finished, click the “Submit” button. If there are any issues with your form, an error message will pop up when you click “Submit.” You must correct all errors. Your classes will not be certified until your form is successfully completed.

- Pay any tuition and fees not covered (paid for) through VA benefits or financial aid by the payment deadline listed.
VMSDEP (War Orphan) recipients should bring a copy of their approval letter to the Financial Services Office prior to each term.Chapters 30, 1606, and 1607 only, MUST verify your enrollment monthly at W.A.V.E. or 877-838-2278.
Chapter 31 Veterans must provide a VA FORM 28-1905 from your VR & E counselor for current term as per guidance from your counselor.
Students having attended and used their VA Benefits at another school, must submit a “Change of Program/Place of Training” Form (VA FORM 22-5495 for Ch. 35- DEA) OR (VA FORM 22-1995- all other chapters).
Remember, you must inform your MVEO Counselor (School Certifying Official) if you:
- Change your enrollment in any manner (drop/add/withdraw)
- Change your major

Veterans Benefits
Brightpoint offers several options for veterans’ educational benefits. The Virginia Board of Education approves most of Brightpoint’s programs of study for the payment of veterans benefits.
After you have submitted your application for benefits, the Veterans Administration will mail a Certificate of Eligibility outlining the details of your benefit. Submit your Certificate of Eligibility to the Military & Veterans Education Office.
To be eligible for benefits, your classes must apply toward your declared major. You must be enrolled in 12 credits hours to receive full benefits, however, benefits are prorated based on “rate of pursuit” when enrolled in less than 12 credits hours.
Choosing Your Benefit Option
There are many things to consider before you apply for a GI Bill program. Please read this information very carefully before electing a benefit. Post 9/11 is irrevocable once chosen.

Montogomery GI Bill (Chapter 30) MGIB-AD
The Montgomery GI Bill Active Duty (MGIB-AD) can help you pay for education and training programs. If you’ve served at least 2 years on active duty, find out if you qualify for the MGIB-AD program.

Post 9/11 GI Bill (Chapter 33)
The Post- 9/11 GI Bill is an education benefit program for individuals who served on active duty after September 10, 2001.
Transferring Your Benefits
The Post-9/11 GI Bill also offers some service members the opportunity to transfer Post 9/11 GI Bill benefits to family members (dependents).
To transfer benefits:

- Once the TEB is approved, the dependent child or spouse must complete a VA Form 22-1990E.
Children AND spouses of a member of the Armed Forces who died in the line of duty on or after September 11, 2001, may be eligible for Post-9/11 GI Bill benefits under the Marine Gunnery Sergeant John David Fry Scholarship Program.
Transferring Benefits from Another College
If you have used your Post 9/11 GI Bill Benefits at another college or university, you must transfer your educational benefits to Brightpoint:
- Request a Change of Program or Place of Training using VA FORM 22-1995
- Submit a Copy of the VA FORM 22-1995 and/or a Copy of your COE (Certificate of Eligibility) to the Military & Veterans Education Office (School Certifying Official)
Montgomery G. I. Bill Selected Reserve Educational Assistance Program (Chapter 1606)
This program is for members of the Selected Reserve of the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard, and the Army and Air National Guard.
